2008 Superbike World Championship
Round 7, Nürburgring, Germany
Friday 13th June
Circuit: 5.137 kms
Conditions: Wet at first, dry later, 11-13C.

FRONT ROW FOR MAX!

http://www.alstare.com/var/ezflow_site/storage/images/galleries/superbike/nurburgring-sbk-friday/ap1_0779/16771-1-eng-GB/AP1_0779_medium.jpg Team Alstare Suzuki rider Max Neukirchner rode steadily in this morning’s difficult conditions and then upped the pace in this afternoon’s dry qualifying session to end the day with the fourth quickest lap. Although he and some of the other riders have raced at the Nürburgring before, none have raced on the layout being used for this round of the Superbike World Championship.
The morning session started wet and by the end there was just about a dry line and some riders were able to venture out on slicks. The afternoon qualifying took place in completely dry conditions and all 28 riders improved their lap times, with Aussie Troy Corser (Yamaha) ending fastest, with a lap of 1:57.257. Second quickest today is series leader Troy Bayliss (Ducati), with Carlos Checa (Honda) third and Max fourth. Team Suzuki Alstare rider Yukio Kagayama finished just behind Max in fifth place, with team mate Fonsi Nieto twelfth.

Max - 4th, 1:57.929
I am sort of satisfied, but there is still some time to go so I know that we can improve. Although I have been here before, it was a different layout I raced, so it is like learning a new track for me. We missed the chance of putting slicks on at the end of the first session but, as the afternoon was dry, it was no big problem. At the moment it is not so easy for me to ride fast here because the grip level doesn’t feel so good. Maybe that’s because the track is a bit dirty and also very cold so it’s hard for the tyres to work at their best.

Yukio - 5th, 1:57.956
This is my first time here and I like this track because it goes up and down a lot. For me there are three corners that are very bumpy, so it has been a small problem to get a good chassis set-up to cope with the bumps. My main problem today is grip! It was difficult today to get a good level of grip and maybe that’s because it is so cold. Also the track itself is cold and that doesn’t help the tyres get hot enough. Otherwise there were no real problems and tomorrow we will work on improving the engine management so that the bike is smoother to ride. We’ll also make some suspension adjustments to see if we can get better grip but, all in all, I am satisfied today.

Fonsi - 12th, 1:58.354
This is my first time here and I think the layout is not so bad, but today the grip level was not so good. I found it difficult to get a good feeling for the grip in turn one and maybe we need to change the balance of the bike and the gearing. It’s a first gear corner and it’s going to see a lot of action in the race for sure! At the moment, I just need more time on the track so that I can understand it before going fast.

MAX DELIGHTS THE HOME FANS BY STORMING TO SUPERPOLE!

http://www.alstare.com/var/ezflow_site/storage/images/galleries/superbike/nurburgring-sbk-superpole/sg1_6693/17066-1-eng-GB/SG1_6693_medium.jpgTeam Alstare Suzuki rider Max Neukirchner delighted the home fans by taking Superpole at the Nürburgring today. The young German had to dig deep to beat Troy Bayliss (Ducati) and Carlos Checa (Honda), but he lapped the 5.137 kilometre circuit without mistake to end with a time of 1:55.471 - three tenths of a second quicker then his nearest rival.
Team Suzuki Alstare rider Fonsi Nieto had a Superpole to forget and finished 14th quickest, but team mate Yukio Kagayama missed Superpole completely! He crashed at the end of the free practice just before Superpole and hit his head and hand hard. Although the Clinica Mobile failed to find any broken bones, Yukio was taken to a local hospital for a check-up. Depending on the results, Yukio may be forced to sit out tomorrow’s pair of 20 lap races.

Max - 1st, 1:55.471
I saw that Carlos had done a very fast lap and I knew my lap would have to be perfect to beat him, but my lap was very good and without mistake. I am so happy to win Superpole, especially in front of my home fans and it is a very special feeling. I want to thank my whole team for the good job they have done this weekend. I am happy with my bike set-up for the race, but I hope that it doesn’t rain because that would be a shame for all the spectators - and all the riders of course!

Fonsi - 14th, 1:57.491
My Superpole was not good - as usual. I am not sure why it’s always this way. The fourth row of the grid gives me a lot of work to do in the races tomorrow. I tried my best in Superpole and pushed as hard as I could, but I made a couple of small errors and that was enough to push me down the grid. It’s a pity because I found a good set-up in practice and qualifying and know that I can do well in the races.

Yukio - 16th, (DNS Superpole)
No comment because of awaiting results of tests.

Final qualifying
1 Max Neukirchner (D-Alstare Suzuki) 1:55.471, 2 Bayliss (Aus-Ducati) 1:55.791, 3 Checa (E-Honda) 1:55.888, 4 Haga (J-Yamaha) 1:56.401, 5 Fabrizio (I-Ducati) 1:56.436, 6 Corser (Aus-Yamaha) 1:56.522, 7 Lanzi I-Ducati) 1:56.574, 8 Biaggi (iI-Ducati) 1:56.918, 9 Muggeridge (Aus-Honda) 1:56.980, 10 Xaus (E-Ducati) 1:57.053,

Round 7, Nürburgring, Germany

Circuit: 5.137 kms Crowd: 41,000 (3-day) Conditions: Mostly overcast, 13-19C

TWO SUPERB PODIUMS FOR MAX!

Team Alstare Suzuki rider Max Neukirchner took two superb podiums in the seventh round of the Superbike World Championship at the Nürburgring today. Conditions were difficult with the first race delayed because of rain and hailstones, but fortunately the track dried out and the 20-lapper got under way without further interruptions for rain. Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha) won the race, with Troy Bayliss (Ducati) second and Max third. With Yukio Kagayama unable to start because of a broken bone in his left hand, Fonsi Nieto was the sole Suzuki Alstare representative. He struggled throughout the race but hung on determinedly to finish eighth.

http://www.alstare.com/var/ezflow_site/storage/images/galleries/superbike/nurburgring-sbk-race-day/mainstory/17578-1-eng-GB/mainstory_imagelarge.jpg

The second race started in the dry but, when the rain began to fall seriously on the fourteenth lap, the organisers decided to red flag it. Although Troy Corser (Yamaha) was in the lead on the track, the victory was given to Haga who had been in the lead when he had crossed the line on the lap the race was stopped. Max took third again and Fonsi ninth.

Max - Race 1: 3rd, Race 2: 3rd
I am really happy to get get two podiums in front of my fans here in Germany. It’s been great to see all the German flags and here the noise of the crowd and it is a very special feeling. Of course, I would have liked to have won a race here today, but Nori, Troy (Corser) and Troy (Bayliss) were very strong today. In race one, my bike was not so bad, but we were losing time in the first sector and the handling wasn’t so good. We changed the bike’s front fork set-up for the second race to try and improve the first sector but I found that I could not brake so late. I tried my very best today, but just couldn’t get the win I wanted.

Fonsi - Race 1: 8th, Race 2: 9th
The first race was not so good because of our tyre choice and I couldn’t brake well into the turns and the rear was also spinning and sliding. For me, the bike balance was not right. We changed the set-up and balance for race two, and also used a harder front tyre, and the bike felt much better. I didn’t make such a good start and it took some time to catch the race pace, but the last five or six laps were very good and I was catching Xaus and Biaggi quite easily. If the race had not been red-flagged, I’m sure I could have passed both of them. Today’s results were not good for me, but the second race was a positive improvement and the bike was much more rideable, so now I can look forward to Misano.

Yukio DNS
Yukio suffered concussion and broken fourth metacarpal bone in his left hand in yesterday afternoon’s crash in free practice. He was taken to hospital in Adenau and kept in overnight for further tests. This morning he was re-scanned and X-rayed again, whereupon it was discovered that he had sustained a fracture in his left hand. Normal recovery time is three to four weeks, but Yukio intends racing in the next round in Misano in two week’s time.

Results
Race 1: 1 Haga (J-Yamaha), 2 Bayliss (Aus-Ducati), 3 Max Neukirchner (D-Alstare Suzuki), 4 Corser (Aus-Yamaha), 5 Checa (E-Honda), 6 Xaus (E-Ducati), 7 Fabrizio (I-Ducati), 8 Fonsi Nieto (E-Suzuki Alstare), 9 Tamada (J-Kawasaki), 10 Muggeridge (Aus-Honda),
Race 2: 1 Haga, 2 Corser, 3 Max Neukirchner (D-Alstare Suzuki), 4 Bayliss, 5 Checa, 6 Fabrizio, 7 Biaggi (I-Ducati), 8 Xaus, 9 Fonsi Nieto (E-Suzuki Alstare), 10 Laconi (F-Kawasaki)

ANOTHER PODIUM FOR XAVI!

http://www.alstare.com/var/ezflow_site/storage/images/galleries/superstock-1000/nurburgring-stk-race-day/ap1_1579/17634-1-eng-GB/AP1_1579_medium.jpgTeam Alstare Suzuki rider Xavi Simeon notched up his fourth podium of the season at the Nürburgring today and leads the Superstock 1000 FIM Cup by ten points. Xavi had to fight hard for his third place today and spent most of the eleven laps battling with Aussie Brendan Roberts (Ducati) and Italian Davide Giugliano (Suzuki). Xavi led the race with two laps to go, but first Roberts and then Giugliano barged past in the closing stages.

Xavi - 3rd
That was a very good race and I enjoyed the fight a lot. Our bike was down on acceleration compared to the other two and I had to try and make up for that on the brakes a lot. Maybe we are a little down on speed, but I know if I had the same acceleration then I could’ve made a better fight for the lead. My bike is a good bike and it worked pretty well today. I am happy that it didn’t rain during the race and I am happy to leave here with the championship lead.

Results
