Biaggi: SBK remains my priority.
Despite failing to secure a full time ride in the 2006 Corona Extra World Superbike championship, ousted MotoGP star Max Biaggi has confirmed that a place in the production based series remains his priority.
Biaggi looked close to clinching a last minute Alstare Suzuki WSBK seat, after the last doors closed to him in MotoGP, but those negotiations also broke down - apparently because some the championship winning team's suppliers were 'unable' to back the project.
Nevertheless, WSBK - including title sponsor Corona, which also backs Alstare Suzuki - knows Biaggi's presence would add yet another significant boost to their 'reborn' championship and the Roman continues to be linked with a wild-card ride at his home Monza round on May 7.
"Currently I'm training with my Supermotard bike, something that you know I really enjoy," Biaggi told his official website. "I can confirm the idea that SBK remains my priority, I know that there is the willing from the organisation to have me on the starting grid and I hope that this happens soon so I can meet again my great supporters in the circuits all over the world."
Biaggi won 13 500cc/MotoGP races during a premier-class career that lasted from 1998-2005, having previously won 29 GPs - on his way to four consecutive world titles - in 250cc.
