Klaffi to sit out 2007.
Despite enjoying its most successful WSBK season to date, Team Klaffi Honda will be missing from the grid in 2007 having failed to secure the necessary sponsorship to compete.
The Austrian team, under the guidance of owner and manager Klaus Klaffenbock, will now work on a possible return to the series in 2008, with a new technical package and stronger sponsorship.
"Our team achieved one victory and five podium finishes this year and, overall, was sixth in the World Superbike Championship, but still it was not possible to secure the necessary budget for 2007," he said, "I want to thank all sponsors, partners and media for the co-operation in SBK," he said, "In addition, I would like to thank FGSport, Paolo Flammini and his team for their excellence work during the years.
The Klaffi operation will not be entirely idle in 2007, however, with Klaffenbock admitting that he was preparing for an assault on the Isle of Man TT, and hoping to name a leading rider aboard his entry as soon as possible. Klaffenbock himself also hopes to be in action during the week.
"I can say that we will not disappear from the motorsport scene at all," he said, "I am open for all future options, amongst which, for sure, is a possible return to SBK in 2008. Our main project now, however, is the Tourist Trophy.
"At the forthcoming 100th edition of the Isle of Man TT, our team will be a serious contender for the victory in the major solo categories of Supersport, Superstock and Superbike. My personal goal is the sidecar victory, and I am looking forward very much for this race with its outstanding atmosphere."
