Re : Tests Pirelli à Philip Island -

After leading the field on day one, reigning double World Superbike champion Troy Bayliss set a record-breaking pace on day two of testing at Phillip Island - leaving his closest rivals over one second adrift.
The Ducati Xerox star had set a best of 1min 32.8secs on Saturday, but dropped a massive 1.8secs from that time in cooler conditions on Sunday morning - while running a 2007 spec rear tyre and a prototype race front tyre - to dip one second under his own Superpole lap record, set at the 2006 Australian event.
Team-mate Lorenzo Lanzi was left to pick up the pieces with the second fastest time of the day - marking an improvement of six positions over the young Italian's day one ranking - but he was still 1.1secs behind 'Baylisstic'.
During a day when all ten riders improved on their Saturday lap times, Hannspree Ten Kate Honda's James Toseland repeated his day one ranking of third, but found 1.2secs around the fast seaside circuit - and was pleased with his pace on race tyres. Former double world champion and new Yamaha Italia rider Troy Corser jumped from seventh to joint third with Toseland, just 0.1secs from Lanzi, but was somewhat concerned at his slower pace during the warmer afternoon conditions.
Corser's former Alstare Suzuki team-mate Yukio Kagayama improved significantly on day two, rising from ninth to fifth and ahead of new superstar team-mate Max Biaggi - who had been second only to Bayliss on day one. The Roman lapped 0.6secs faster on day two, but that only placed him equal sixth with Regis Laconi and he also suffered a fall at the slow right-hand MG corner.
Laconi also fell, at some 240kmph through Hayshed, but was fortunately unhurt and continued to set a pace close to the leaders from then on. PSG-1 team-mate Fonsi Nieto slipped from joint third to eighth fastest on day two, while Corser's team-mate Noriyuki Haga was left ninth - but only 0.7 seconds from Lanzi in second place. Roberto Rolfo again completed the timesheets, but at least improved by 1.5secs over day one. However, the Italian still needs 1.7secs to match team-mate Toseland.
In the Supersport class, Yamaha's Kevin Curtain and Ten Kate Honda's Kenan Sofuoglu shared the top time of 1min 34.7secs while Curtain's team-mate and day one pace setter, Broc Parkes, was pushed back to third by just 0.1secs.
SC Caracchi Ducati's Gianluca Nannelli equalled the best qualifying time in a race weekend with his 1min 35.2secs, but after another fall from his new Ten Kate run machine, reigning champion Sebastien Charpentier did not improve as much as he may have expected, and was left just fifth fastest and 1.3secs from the top.
