John McGuinness continued to show he is the man who can conjure lap records on the world's fastest road circuits after setting a fastest-ever roads lap in the Dundrod 150 race yesterday.
The Dundrod 150 meeting has been combined with the Ulster GP this year – the two events ran on the same course, but previously in June and August respectively – and McGuinness set a best of 131.72mph in an absolute classic race.
It is the fastest lap speed among all the traditional road events, despite the field running in a mass start not against the clock like the Isle of Man.
Notwithstanding his outright pace, John McGuiness only managed to take second, losing out by a miniscule 0.01s from arch rival Guy Martin, with McGuinness' HM Plant Honda team-mate Ian Hutchinson third a further fraction back.
Leader o the last lap, Hutchinson was fuming by a pass Martin out on him to take the lead at Joey's Windmill in the closing miles.
With the weather for the showcase Ulster GP races tomorrow predicted to be heavy rain, it is likely that the Dundrod 150 race will be the corker of the weekend, and unlikely to be bettered for speed.
