British Supersport rider Guy Sanders dies after Mondello Park crash

British Supersport rider Guy Sanders has died following a serious multi-bike incident in the first lap of the re-started British Supersport race at Mondello Park in Ireland on Sunday.

Sanders sustained critical head and chest injuries in the crash at Daly’s Drift and was initially treated at the trackside before being transferred to the Tallaght hospital in Dublin.

The Kawasaki rider died of his injuries in hospital at 9pm last night. He had been the fastest rider in the first British Supersport free practice on Friday.
A statement issued by British Superbike organisers, MCRCB Events, said: “It is with deep regret that we announce that last night Guy Sanders sadly succumbed to the critical injuries he sustained in an accident at Mondello Park, Ireland yesterday.

“On behalf of the BSB community we offer our profound sympathies to the family, friends and team members.”

Stuart Higgs, BSB Series Director added, "We are deeply saddened by the circumstances and outcome of this tragic accident.

“Guy had become an established and highly rated member of the BSB paddock and, with his father Derek had become an accomplished team in the National Superstock and latterly the British Supersport Championship with the Gearlink team."

The other riders involved in the crash were Steven Neate (Honda, Angel Racing) and Jamie Hamilton (Kawasaki, Longshot Racing KGR). Steven Neate remains in hospital this morning with a minor head injury, while Jamie Hamilton was treated for minor soft tissue injuries but was released from the Mondello Park medical centre.

MCN extends its sympathy to Sanders' family and friends at this difficult time.

If you would like to send a message of condolence please email us here at mcnsport@emap.com and we will pass your messages on to the family.
We will add details of funeral arrangements once they are confirmed.

Evidemment je n'avait jamais entendu parler de ce pilote, mais quelqu'un qui meurt d'un accident en compétition c'est triste.

Toutes mes condoléances à sa famille.
