Jet lag biggest problem at PSG-1.
PSG-1 Kawasaki team-mates Fonsi Nieto and Regis Laocni made a promising start to the three-day Phillip Island test, setting the third equal and sixth fastest lap times - despite a severe case of jet lag.
"Not too bad for the first day after some time off from riding. I worked a lot on my spare bike today, as in the previous tests at Doha I hardly rode it at all, and even in 2006 I did not use the spare bike that much," said Fonsi, who tied with Honda's James Toseland and Yamaha's Noriyuki Haga in lapping 0.6secs behind fastest man Troy Bayliss. "With the jet lag we are all suffering and two bikes to try and set-up it was not easy today, and we lost the way a little bit. I swapped back to my number one bike later on and we made things better."
Laconi, just 0.1secs slower, also struggled to stay awake after the near 24hr long flight from Europe to Australia.
"It was strange this morning because it was difficult to wake up enough to ride at the speed we needed to," confessed the Frenchman. "Not only is the jet-lap affecting me but this track is particularly fast and you really have to be on top form to set good laps. The bike feels pretty good and we started off with the settings we worked on in Doha, which I was very happy with. We are still not quite there in terms of the bike feeling just how I want it but today was a good start and the lap time is pretty good."

Bayliss destroys circuit best lap on day two
On the second day of Pirelli tyre tests at Phillip Island Troy Bayliss (Ducati Xerox) took a whole second off the previous best qualifying time, while running a 2007 spec rear and a prototype race front.
His time of 1'31.0 was set in the cooler conditions of the morning, and no other rider got within a second of his time, despite a great improvement in general lap times through the ten rider SBK attendance. Next closest to Bayliss was his team-mate, Lorenzo Lanzi, who scored a 1'32.1.
CORSER AND TOSELAND SHARE THIRD BEST TIME James Toseland (Hannspree Ten Kate Honda) and Troy Corser (Yamaha Motor Italia) shared the time of 1'32.2 with Toseland pleased at his general pace on race tyres but Corser somewhat concerned that in the warmer conditions of the afternoon sessions he could not maintain the pace he could in the mornings. A marked improvement on day two from Yukio Kagayama (Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra) pushed him to fifth place, on a 1'32.3.
Despite a fall in the afternoon session, at the slow right-hander of MG corner, Max Biaggi (Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra) was equal sixth fastest, matching Regis Laconi (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse) on 1'32.6. Laconi also fell, at Hayshed, at some 240kmph. He was unhurt in his crash and continued to set a pace close to the leaders from then on. Fonsi Nieto (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse) went eighth fastest with his 1'32.7, while Noriyuki Haga (Yamaha Motor Italia) demonstrated that it was a close day of testing by setting a 1'32.8 for ninth place - only 0.7 seconds from Lanzi in second place. Roberto Rolfo (Hannspree Ten Kate Honda) set a best of 1'33.9, 1.5 seconds faster than day one.
SUPERSPORT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP Several riders in the Supersport class went on the rampage against the stopwatches, with Kevin Curtain (Yamaha Supersport Racing) and Kenan Sofuoglu (Hannspree Ten Kate Honda) setting joint fastest time, 1'34.7. Broc Parkes (Yamaha Supersport Racing) was only one tenth of a second behind the leading duo, as each of the top riders decimated the previous track best.
Gianluca Nannelli (SC Caracchi Ducati) equalled the best qualifying time in a race weekend with his 1'35.2, but after another fall from his new machine, Sebastien Charpentier (Hannspree Ten Kate Honda) did not improve as much as he may have expected, and made a 1'36 flat, to go fifth fastest on the day.
Fabien Foret (Gil Kawasaki) scored a 1'36.3, to edge out both his team-mate, Pere Riba, and Hoegee Suzuki rider Barry Veneman by only one tenth. Veneman's team-mate, Vesa Kallio, went ninth, on 1'37.7.
SUPERBIKE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 1. Bayliss (Aus-Ducati) 1’31”0; 2. Lanzi (Ita-id) 1’32”1; 3. Toseland (GB-Honda) 1’32”2; 4. Corser (Aus-Yamaha) 1’32”2; 5. Kagayama (Gia-Suzuki) 1’32”3; 6. Biaggi (Ita-Suzuki) 1’32”6; 7. Laconi (Fra-Kawasaki) 1’32”6; 8. Nieto (Spa-id) 1’32”7; 9. Haga (id-Yamaha) 1’32”8; 10. Rolfo (Ita-Honda) 1’33”9.
SUPERSPORT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP: 1. Curtain (Aus-Yamaha) 1’34”7; 2. Sofuoglu (Tur-Honda) 1’34”7; 3. Parkes (Aus-Yamaha) 1’34”8; 4. Nannelli (Ita-Ducati) 1’35”2; 5. Charpentier (Fra-Honda) 1’36”0; 6. Foret (id- Kawasaki) 1’36”3; 7. Riba (Spa-id) 1’36”4; 8. Veneman (Ola-Suzuki) 1’36”4; 9. Kallio (Fin-id) 1’37”7.
Bayliss enfonce le clou loin devant la concurence! Lanzi à 1sec mais devant l'armada japonaise.

Re : Tests Pirelli à Philip Island -
14/01/2007, 15h45
After leading the field on day one, reigning double World Superbike champion Troy Bayliss set a record-breaking pace on day two of testing at Phillip Island - leaving his closest rivals over one second adrift.
The Ducati Xerox star had set a best of 1min 32.8secs on Saturday, but dropped a massive 1.8secs from that time in cooler conditions on Sunday morning - while running a 2007 spec rear tyre and a prototype race front tyre - to dip one second under his own Superpole lap record, set at the 2006 Australian event.
Team-mate Lorenzo Lanzi was left to pick up the pieces with the second fastest time of the day - marking an improvement of six positions over the young Italian's day one ranking - but he was still 1.1secs behind 'Baylisstic'.
During a day when all ten riders improved on their Saturday lap times, Hannspree Ten Kate Honda's James Toseland repeated his day one ranking of third, but found 1.2secs around the fast seaside circuit - and was pleased with his pace on race tyres. Former double world champion and new Yamaha Italia rider Troy Corser jumped from seventh to joint third with Toseland, just 0.1secs from Lanzi, but was somewhat concerned at his slower pace during the warmer afternoon conditions.
Corser's former Alstare Suzuki team-mate Yukio Kagayama improved significantly on day two, rising from ninth to fifth and ahead of new superstar team-mate Max Biaggi - who had been second only to Bayliss on day one. The Roman lapped 0.6secs faster on day two, but that only placed him equal sixth with Regis Laconi and he also suffered a fall at the slow right-hand MG corner.
Laconi also fell, at some 240kmph through Hayshed, but was fortunately unhurt and continued to set a pace close to the leaders from then on. PSG-1 team-mate Fonsi Nieto slipped from joint third to eighth fastest on day two, while Corser's team-mate Noriyuki Haga was left ninth - but only 0.7 seconds from Lanzi in second place. Roberto Rolfo again completed the timesheets, but at least improved by 1.5secs over day one. However, the Italian still needs 1.7secs to match team-mate Toseland.
In the Supersport class, Yamaha's Kevin Curtain and Ten Kate Honda's Kenan Sofuoglu shared the top time of 1min 34.7secs while Curtain's team-mate and day one pace setter, Broc Parkes, was pushed back to third by just 0.1secs.
SC Caracchi Ducati's Gianluca Nannelli equalled the best qualifying time in a race weekend with his 1min 35.2secs, but after another fall from his new Ten Kate run machine, reigning champion Sebastien Charpentier did not improve as much as he may have expected, and was left just fifth fastest and 1.3secs from the top.

Côté Honda, on reste serein néanmoins.
Chronos :
1. Parkes (Aus-Yamaha) 1’35”2 2. Curtain (Aus-Yamaha) 1’35”4 3. Charpentier (Fra-Honda) 1’36”3 4. Sofuoglu (Tur-id) 1’36”3 5. Riba (Fra-Kawasaki) 1’36”6 6. Foret (Fra-id) 1’36”9 7. Veneman (Ola-Suzuki) 1’37”6 8. Kallio (Fin-Suzuki) 1’38”99. Nannelli (Ita-Ducati) n.a.
Meilleur Tour 2006 : 1’36 549
