I'm happy to come back after a forced three-week break at home. It's been a tough period because the shoulder has been really painful. It hurts every time I move my arm and I can't even rest properly because it is even painful when I lay down," said Toni. "I've tried to recover as quickly as possible by having two sessions with the physiotherapist each day.
"I want to race even though I am aware it will be very difficult and painful. I don't know how the shoulder will react to the demands of the
bike at a circuit like Sachsenring, which has a lot of left corners - the injured side. I feel motivated - crashes and the recovery period always make you stronger and that is the way I feel," he declared.
« Je suis content de revenir après trois semaines de repos forcé ! » commente le pilote espagnol.
« Cela a été une période difficile, car ma blessure était très douloureuse, je souffrais au moindre geste ! Malgré la douleur, j'ai dû faire deux séances de physiothérapie par jour afin d'être remis aussi vite que possible. »
« Maintenant, je dois voir comment je me sens au guidon de la moto, ce sera difficile : le Sachsenring est un circuit très sinueux, avec beaucoup de virages à gauche. Malgré tout, je suis motivé - cette période de convalescence m'a rendu plus fort. »
Gibernau de retour .... bien que son epaule soit bien remise le sachsenring n'est pas un circuit confortable apres avoir eu une clavicule cassé. Il n'a pas regardé les GP a la TV, ca l'aurait rendu fou !!!
"I am really looking forward to returning to action!" said Gibernau, who was replaced by Alex Hofmann. "The shoulder is recovering well and I have been working to get fit as fast as possible. It is a pity that I've lost three races but now I just want to ride my Desmosedici again. I haven't watched the races on TV because I know that watching them would only make me feel really mad about not being there but I have been in constant contact with my team. I want to thank the team, the Dexeus hospital, especially Drs Mir and Ginebreda, and everyone else who has supported me because I have been looked after so well.
"Sachsenring won't be the most comfortable circuit to ride with a collarbone injury. It's physically demanding because it's tight and slow, that's why the 250s can do similar lap times to
MotoGP bikes. Anyway, I like the circuit and it holds good memories because I won there in 2003 and got second last year after a great race. I hope that all will go okay this time and that my shoulder won't be too much of a problem," he added.
« J'ai hâte de reprendre le guidon ! Mon épaule va mieux et j'ai fait pas mal d'exercice afin de retrouver mon niveau de forme aussi vite que possible, » commente Gibernau.
« C'est dommage d'avoir manqué trois courses, mais maintenant, je veux tout simplement remonter sur ma Desmosedici. Je n'ai pas regardé les courses à la télévision, car je savais que cela aurait été encore plus frustrant - toutefois, je suis resté en contact permanent avec mon team. »
« Courir au Sachsenring ne sera pas facile - c'est un circuit très exigeant, très physique, car le tracé est lent et sinueux - c'est pour cela que les 250cc peuvent tourner à un rythme comparable aux MotoGP. En tout cas, j'aime ce circuit - j'en garde de bons souvenirs : j'y avais gagné en 2003, puis l'an dernier j'avais aussi fait une super course et j'avais terminé deuxième. J'espère que tout se passera bien cette fois et que mon épaule ne me gênera pas trop. »
Capirossi toujours là, malgré des douleurs toujours importantes et pour lesquelles il ne peut rien faire a part attendre puisque c'est interne. Les injections ne font pas d'effet non plus. il espère etre a 80/90% de son potentiel.
Capirossi chose to race on, despite his injuries, in order to keep his world championship hopes alive but - although the Italian was tied with
Nicky Hayden before his fall - he is now fifth in the championship and 46 points from the
Repsol Honda rider.
"I hope to be 80 to 90 per cent fit for the race at Sachsenring. I don't think I will be 100 per cent fit because my doctors told me I would need 30 to 35 days from the accident to fully recover," said Loris, 15th at Assen and ninth at
Donington Park. "The problem is that the injury is internal, so it's impossible to work on it effectively and it doesn't really respond to pain-killing therapies. I am looking forward to being able to ride properly once again.
Melandri souffre d'une fracture a la clavicule droite !
As if
Marco Melandri's Donington podium wasn't amazing enough - given that it came just two weeks after he was hospitalised at Catalunya - it has now been revealed that the Italian is
riding with a fractured collarbone!
The much needed weekend off, after three races in succession, allowed Melandri to undergo further tests on his numerous upper body injuries - including an examination at a clinic run by Doctor Porcellini, the orthopaedic shoulder specialist who operated on Melandri's collarbone and shoulder in 2003.
The results of those tests revealed that Melandri suffered a compound fracture to his right collarbone in the nasty turn one accident. Three weeks on - and after finishing seventh at Assen and third at Donington - Marco is still recovering, but the pain continues and the Italian must try to move his right arm as little as possible, particularly avoiding putting it across his front.
"The week break has given me chance to recover but also to find out more about why I'm in so much pain with my right shoulder," said the
Fortuna Honda rider, a double 2006 race winner. "The examination I underwent (X-ray, CAT and magnetic resonance) have shown up a fracture to the right collarbone next to the sternoclavicular joint. That explains the intense pain I was in at Assen and Donington. I've already spoken with both Doctor Porcellini, the specialist who operated on my collarbone in 2003, and Doctor Costa about continuing the physiotherapy. The worst is over but I still have to try to move my right arm as little as possible."
But moving his right arm as little as possible won't be easy for Melandri this weekend, since he will be taking part in the German
Grand Prix at the tight and twisty Sachsenring.
